What a Crypto QR code is for

  • Shops that accept crypto

A code by the till beats reading a 42-character address out loud, character by character.

  • Donations and tips

Streamers, creators and NGOs print the code where their audience already is.

  • Invoices

The code on the invoice, with the exact amount embedded, removes the riskiest copy-paste in the payment.

For Bitcoin the code follows BIP-21 (bitcoin:address?amount=...); for Ethereum, the analogous ethereum: scheme. Wallets read both natively.

Everything is static and public: an address can be shared openly. What must never travel in a QR is a private key or a seed phrase.

Crypto QR code questions

Is it safe to show my address in public?

The address is meant for receiving and is public by design. It reveals your incoming payments on-chain, which some businesses prefer to avoid — use a fresh address if that matters to you.

Which currencies are supported?

Bitcoin and Ethereum for now, the two schemes wallets understand most widely.

These questions do not depend on the code type, and they are worth reading before sending anything to print: what size to print a QR code at , why a heavily customised code stops scanning and how static and dynamic codes differ .
